Here is a full description about the documentary:
Sixty years after the first major waves of immigration from the Indian Subcontinent, why are there such huge disparities in how well different communities have integrated into the UK? Why are some communities faring better than others in jobs and education, and why are women from South Asian backgrounds now outstripping their male peers? In this programme presenter, Mehreen Baig is going to explore these questions by following the stories of men and women, both in the UK and in the country from which her family migrated – Pakistan. Drawing on her background as a teacher at a state school in Tottenham, Mehreen will begin with the question of education. She will then explore the experiences of several British Asian men and women, asking what their stories can tell us about the process of integration and feelings of belonging, and hear about the struggles they face. She will investigate attitudes to work, education, family and identity and how these differ across immigrant communities, age groups and different parts of the UK.
